Performance Results

Aqua View is about whole farm PROFIT potential with meaningful CONSERVATION results.

What makes the Aqua View initiative so unique is that its results can impact EVERYONE. Aqua View allows Fontanelle™ to look at the entire interaction of the plant’s genetics to its environment – water utilization, soil makeup, fertility, and plant population and development – and then puts together the best plan for our grower's farms. And it also highlights to ALL consumers the value of water conservation and how farmer's are doing their part in preparing for future generations.

Performance Results

The Aqua View® initiative three-year average results from our QTV trials alone (without Variable Rate Irrigation), show reduced water usage, increased yields and increased net profits.

  • Average Energy Cost Savings per Acre: $11.35
  • Average Additional Yield Income per Acre : $38.33
  • Average Additional Profit per Acre: $49.68
  • 3-Year Average Additional Profit: $6,458.40*!!

    *based on 130 acres

And not only have we shown value in yield and energy savings with  Aqua View, we have alo partnered up with CropMetrics LLC to show the added value of Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI) A series of yield trials were conducted during the 2011 grower season and the goal of these trials was to clearly demonstrate the viability of using fully integrated data, software and control to enhance spatial irrigation management and increase yields. Click here to view the Trial Results. Or visit CropMetrics website directly for more information on VRI and other precision ag services.

The Meaning of Conservation

In addition to Aqua View providing value to growers through added yields and lower input costs; it has also proved to be an effective way to conserve water and manage other natural resources. Since starting the Aqua View project in 2009, we have seen summertime extremes. In 2012, the summer was so dry that our customers were not able to save much water, but they did learn how to improve the timing of their irrigation events. Nickk Lammers, the Aqua View Field Lead and Agronomist said, "In 2012 some farmers thought that water should be applied more quickly because it was so hot and dry. In reality, they needed to slow down because evaoporation was so high. The Aqua View probe helped show them how to maximize the economic efficiency of water."

2010 was a different summer - where Aqua View water savings were huge! We estimate that Fontanelle's Aqua View growers saved 8.4 BILLION gallons of water in 2010 alone! You ask - how much is 8.4 billion gallons?
